Session information
In July 2019, HSG and the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research (the Alliance), in partnership with Health Policy and Planning, launched the Women Mentorship program. This follows the Alliance’s initial mentorship program to increase the numbers of early-career women based in low- and middle-income countries working in HPSR, who are interested to publish their research for the first time and in need of guidance to successfully navigate the manuscript submission and acceptance process.
HSG invited applications from would-be first-time women authors, and members from the technical working groups to be mentors. The resulting special issue bringing together these articles will be globally launched at HSR2020.
The objective of this networking session is to feature selected mentees and mentors to share their experiences as participants in the Women Mentorship program. Specific objectives are to provide a dialogue space to reflect on:
Skills and competencies enhanced through the process (beyond the technical; both mentee and mentor perspectives);
Organizational cultures (including disciplinary) influencing mentorship outcomes; and
Needed institutional supports for mentorship, and modalities for scale-up.
Target audience: Women Mentorship program participants; future participants; and those with a general interest in HSG capacity strengthening initiatives.
Session format:
Introduction: a brief overview from moderators (5 minutes)
The panel of two mentees and two mentors, each posed a question drawn from session objectives (15 minutes)
Moderated discussion with session attendees (20 minutes)
Wrap up, synthesis, way forward from moderators (5 minutes)
The session will be co-moderated by Aku Kwamie (the Alliance) and Nanuka Jalaghonia (HSG Secretariat).
